By road
Driving from a channel port to Meilhan is not as daunting as it sounds. Calais to Meilhan-sur-Garonne is approximately 585 miles (940 kilometres), the majority of which is motorway. If you can afford the time to make the journey part of your holiday, a relaxing 2 or three day drive from North to South can take in some spectacular countryside
With an overnight stop in central France (many motels are available at around €35 per room), it can be a very pleasant journey of two 5 to 6 hour legs. Check Norfolk Line, Sea France, or Hoverspeed for cheap channel crossings, or try Ferry Savers or Ferry Offers.
By rail
Check with Rail Europe or SNCF for special fares from London to Bordeaux. Bordeaux is one of the largest cities in France and is well served by its rail links. The TGV leaves Paris Montparnasse at regular intervals and the average journey time is around 3hours 15 mins. There are then regional trains that run between Bordeaux and Agen, stopping at Marmande (13 km away) and La Reole (11 km away).
By air
